My Dear Parishioners,
One of our parishioners, Amy Soufo, recently visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in France and was kind enough to share her powerful story with us:
Lourdes was a dream come true. Health-wise, I wasn't in great shape for a long trip. Thanks to my friend Denise, I was nominated as a "malade" to the Order of Malta. A "malade" is a person who is ill. The Order of Malta chooses approximately 60 people each year to take on a pilgrimage to Lourdes.
Monsignor Kidney wrote a beautiful letter on my behalf to the Order of Malta. Many people contributed to he realization of this trip. I am grateful to all those individuals.
Lourdes was Heaven on Earth. I felt at home with the Virgin Mary and the Order of Malta. This organization was compassionate, loving, caring, and very hard working. They live their commitment and their Catholic faith to the fullest.
The Grotto of Lourdes with the thousands who visit every day was very emotional, especially when we had Mass by the Archbishop Gomez. The candlelight processions with thousands singing Ave Maria felt like one unified voice. The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, which was built at the request of Our Lady through St. Bernadette, was magnificent. Attending Mass with 25,000 of the faithful in the Basilica of St Pius X (co-celebrated with over 100 priests) made me feel proud to be Catholic and filled me with joy. At the Church of St. Bernadette, members of the Order of Malta washed the feet of all the "malades".
Visiting the "baths" with the Virgin Mary smiling down on me was the most moving experience. When the "Lourdes" water was poured over my hands and face, I felt a shiver down my spine and tears rolling down my face. I felt overwhelmed with emotion.
I would like to thank Monsignor Kidney, and the Order of Malta (with special thanks to Dr. Amos), for giving me the great opportunity of visiting Lourdes. Special thanks to our Blessed Mother and her Beloved Son for this magnificent gift!

VOTIVE CANDLES FOR YOUR INTENTIONS
You are invited to come into the church to light votive candles at our Blessed Mother shrine for your own intentions, or in memory of your loved ones.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE A MASS SAID FOR SOMEONE?
A lovely way to remember a deceased loved one, a recently deceased friend, parent of a friend, or relative, or someone who is ill, or perhaps just a friend you would like to honor, is to have a Mass said for them. Each day and weekend a Mass is offered in memory of a deceased person, or for the intentions of someone who is ill, or perhaps whose birthday is that day.
If you would like to have a Mass said for someone, you can contact the parish office at 310-454-1328, come in person, or email jane@corpuschristichurch.com with the name of the person, if they are deceased or living, and if you are requesting a specific date. Please note that the annual Mass book fills up quickly, and often specific dates are booked well in advance. You can pick up a card to send to the person or their family so they will know when the Mass is being said, and that you are thinking of them. We can also mail the card for you. We would love to honor your request, so give us a call!
As always, our priests are available to anoint those who are very ill and to bury the dead. Please call the parish office, 310-454-1328, and you will be directed to our emergency pager number.
